The wheelchair support project began after a Rotary member from Wales visited Rotary Club of Almaty while working in Kazakhstan and learned about mobility needs among families affected by the Semey nuclear testing legacy.
After returning to the UK, partner Rotarians launched a community collection campaign. The effort gathered approximately 100 wheelchairs and mobility devices; units requiring repairs were professionally restored before shipment.
With additional logistical sponsorship from corporate partners, equipment was transported from the UK to Kazakhstan and delivered to beneficiaries, significantly improving mobility and daily care conditions.
