Every year on 24 October — World Polio Day — the global community unites to rid the world of this devastating viral disease. End Polio Now is a global initiative by Rotary International, joined by tens of thousands of Rotary clubs worldwide to raise awareness and funds for the Rotary Foundation's international polio eradication programme.
Ahead of World Polio Day 2019, and with the support of Business FM radio, Rotarians from Almaty held a special campaign at the Salem Social Media Forum: selling the famous Almaty aport apple — one of the most beloved symbols of the city — in specially packaged gift sets. Forum participants purchased the apples and learned about the threat of polio and the End Polio Now project, to which all proceeds from the sale were directed.
This was part of a series of events organised by Rotary Club of Almaty to inform Kazakhstanis about polio and raise voluntary contributions for this vital international initiative.
Thanks to decades of Rotary-led effort, polio has been reduced by more than 99.9% worldwide. But the final step requires continued commitment. If you or your organisation would like to join Rotary Club of Almaty's End Polio Now campaign, please reach out — together we can make history.
