Rotary's global focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene was implemented locally by Rotary Club of Almaty through a regional school infrastructure project launched in 2010 and completed in 2011.
Following needs assessment with local authorities, priority institutions in Kyzylzhar, Ungurtas, Besagash and Tuymebayeva were selected. Funds raised at a charity event in February 2011 enabled the team to deliver practical clean-water improvements within four months.
The project reached more than 3,500 children and demonstrated how targeted WASH interventions can immediately improve health conditions and school attendance.
