"Drop by Drop": 180 Litres of Blood Donated, 1,350 Lives Saved

In a two-month campaign (October–November 2017), Rotary and Rotaract Almaty united the city behind a blood donation drive — collecting 180 litres of blood and helping 1,350 people in need.

In autumn 2017, Rotary Club of Almaty decided to support a social project run by its partner, Rotaract Club of Almaty. Over two months — October and November — a social media information campaign urged Almaty residents to become blood donors.

The "Drop by Drop" project reminded many of us that helping a neighbour (even an unknown one) is within everyone's reach. Every day and night, surgeons in operating rooms across the city fight for the lives of our fellow citizens — and they need donor blood.

Almost all members of Rotary Club of Almaty who were medically eligible to donate gave blood as part of the "Drop by Drop" project. Several organisations also participated, with the most active being employees of Almatytelecom and JSC Bakhus.

In total, 180 litres of blood were collected — enough to help 1,350 people.

The conclusion of the project was marked by a special celebration event for the participating donors at one of Almaty's venues — a fitting tribute to everyone who gave the gift of life.
